Case Study: Gaelic Woodland Project

Filming at Lisnavagh House

We recently had the opportunity to work with the Gaelic Woodland Project to document an important conversation about the link between Irish trees, the Gaelic language, and cultural identity. This project was more than just filming a panel talk because it was about capturing a deep passion for Irish reforestation and the connection to the land that defines the Irish spirit.

Gaelic Culture and Land

The Gaelic Woodland Project hired us to produce high-quality video for their Gaelic Culture and Land campaign. The goal was to create a long educational resource for YouTube and generate high-impact social media content to drive awareness for their volunteering and reforestation efforts. The talk featured Eoghan Connaughton, Santiago Rial, and Oisin O’Neill and took place in the historic library at Lisnavagh House in County Carlow.

The Setup for an Intimate Setting

The library provided an intimate and scholarly atmosphere that perfectly matched the depth of the conversation. To capture the hour-long discussion while keeping the relaxed feel of the room, we used a professional setup with one videographer. We supplied two 4K cameras, where one stayed on a fixed wide shot of the group and the other captured individual shots of each speaker. We also used wireless microphones and professional lights to make sure the dialogue was clear and the room looked warm and inviting without being distracting.

Bringing the Conversation to Life in the Edit

In the editing phase, we added graphics supplied by the speakers to create a visual presentation that complemented their conversation. This helps the audience follow the historical and cultural references more clearly. The final result is the longest video on their YouTube channel and serves as a permanent educational resource for anyone interested in Irish folklore and ecology.

Capturing the Landscape and Environmental Awareness

Beyond the library, we used a 4K drone to capture the beautiful grounds of Lisnavagh House. We also filmed a specific piece with Oisin O’Neill about the Rhododendron, which is an invasive species in Ireland. For this segment, we filmed vertically to suit Instagram and used a teleprompter so Oisin could deliver his script smoothly while standing right in front of a Rhododendron bush. This allowed the project to share professional, direct messages with their social media followers.

Creating Lasting Impact Through Social Media

By filming both the full-length lecture and shorter snippets, we provided the Gaelic Woodland Project with a variety of content to support their mission for months to come. These shorter clips help them reach new audiences on social media while the main video stands as a deep dive into Irish heritage. This multi-format approach ensures that the message of reforestation and cultural preservation reaches as many people as possible.
